Why support La Scala Laboratories

Each Artistic Season, nearly half of La Scala’s opera and ballet titles are new productions — creations brought to life within the Theatre itself, where every set, costume, and stage element is crafted by hand.

La Scala is more than a stage: it is a place of creation, where imagination takes shape and becomes art. Behind each production stands the extraordinary skill of over 150 artisans — carpenters, blacksmiths, set builders, sculptors, seamstresses, and costume makers — whose mastery transforms artistic vision into tangible beauty. Many of them have learned their craft not in classrooms, but side by side with the masters, through the timeless art of hands-on learning.

The Laboratories are therefore not only places of work, but living schools — where knowledge, technique, and passion are passed from one generation to the next. Here, young apprentices grow under the guidance of experienced mentors, continuing a centuries-old tradition that defines the very essence of the Scala method.

Supporting the Laboratories means investing in the creative heart of La Scala: nurturing the talent of tomorrow, safeguarding the artistry of today, and ensuring that this unique legacy of Italian craftsmanship continues to flourish for generations to come.
